Chicago United Way has cut
funding to the Boy Scouts of America. The implacable sodomites have
commended that organization for severing ties with the Scouts but, at the
same time, have chastised them for not doing the deed sooner! As you can
read below, the "stop the hate" crowd is now accusing the Boy
Scouts of being "child abusers" for not allowing open sodomites
into their tents.

Gays Celebrate Big Victory Over Boy Scouts of America
Late yesterday the Chicago Anti-Bashing Network (CABN), a local gay rights
direct action organization, learned that the Boy Scouts of America (BSA)
and Chicago's United Way had quietly parted ways in early October, making
it perhaps the largest United Way in the country to dump the anti-gay
Scouts. After cutting the BSA's funding by 92% last year, the BSA
apparently read the tea leaves and decided to drop its membership as a
partner agency of the Chicago United Way (see http://www.chicagobsa.org/uway.htm).
The BSA has distinguished itself as one of the country's most virulently
anti-gay organizations, aggressively purging gays from its ranks and
fighting all the way to the Supreme Court for the right to fire its gay
employees. Prior to 9/11, CABN met with Chicago United Way officials
several times over the course of a year in an effort to get them stop
funding the BSA. Ultimately, CABN was forced to launched protests and a
boycott of the Chicago United Way (see http://cabn.org/archives/boyscouts/032901unitedway_ties.html).
"Our position was that the United Way and government agencies which
see themselves as representing the best interests of the entire community
should stay a million miles away from any private organization which
actively discriminates against any minority," said CABN co-founder
Andy Thayer. "Pre-saging the 'faith-based' initiatives of President
Bush, the BSA has eagerly gobbled up whatever public funding and other
government perks it could, spending our tax money while refusing to employ
us.
What's worse, the BSA's anti-gay purges send a horrible message to kids,
amounting to child abuse of gay youth who find themselves in the Scouts,
and encouraging scapegoating and discrimination amongst the young minds they're supposed to be nurturing."
"We're gratified that the Chicago United Way has finally decided to
do the right thing, but their quietude and slowness in doing it hardly
shapes up as a profile in moral courage. Many United Ways in much more
conservative areas of the country openly and boldly took this step long
before Chicago."
