Wisconsin Christians United will be back at
Mazo beach again today beginning at 11:00 AM. This will be WCU's second
large event of the year at the beach. There have also been two smaller
outings. Beach-goers will be confronted with gospel truth every step of
the one-mile walk to the beach from the parking lot. WCU will accomplish
this by setting up groups of Christians with signs and tracts all along
the gravel path. The WCU Preachers on Wheels (POW) Team has also been
expanded and will be in action to minister to beach-going walkers and bike
riders.
In recent days, WCU has been receiving a large volume of e-mails
from supporters of Mazo beach. Below is a sampling of comments from those
e-mails in which the authors seem to intimate what WCU has long held--that
the Mazo beach nudists have friends in high places:
• "YOU HAVE DEMONSTRATED YOUR INTELLIGENCE BY INSULTING A CIRCUIT COURT
JUDGE. SMOOTH MOVE, RALPH. YOU HAVE ENDEARED YOURSELF TO THE ENTIRE DANE
BAR ASSN!! YOU WILL NOT WIN. YOU CANNOT WIN."
• "MAKE NO MISTAKE - your public words and actions will be recorded for
evidence. There is no justification for such belligerence. The authorities
have begun to curtail your efforts. Go ahead....gear up if you like. We
shall do the same."
• "YOUR ACTIONS WILL BE VIDEO TAPED FOR FUTURE PRESENTATION TO THE DANE
CO. DISTRICT ATTORNEY AS EVIDENCE OF HARASSMENT."
• UNDERSTAND THIS: Beach goers are NOT going to run away from you! The
DNR and other law enforcement groups will protect OUR right to use that
beach. We refuse to give you the publicity you seek and make martyrs out
of you. Channel #3 considers you `old news.'"
• "You just picked the wrong person to try to intimidate,
Mr.Ovadahl! I
plan on giving my worldly fortunes to my church when I go to be with the
Lord, but in the meantime, I wouldn't mind spending a million or so to see
you put where you belong!"
• "The words used, and the actions taken by members of your group
certainly could cause a normal person to react negatively. Since these
situations have been caused solely by the actions of members of your
group, we would hold you and your group responsible [in any conflict] . .
. You mentioned an incident where the use of pepper spray was threatened
[against WCU]. Pepper spray is legal in Wisconsin, and can be used for
self defense. Please advise your group to avoid conduct which may be
perceived as threatening by other persons." --Ruthe Badger, South
Central Region DNR Director
"In addition to threats like those above, we continue to
receive threats of outright physical violence for our stand against the
public nudity at Mazo on behalf of the children of our state and the Lord
we serve. It is obvious that persons in high places are determined to keep
Wisconsin's tax-funded peepshow open. The Church of Jesus Christ is
likewise determined to close it down. No wonder the temperature at Mazo
beach is rising."
